’Walk & Talk’

I offer outdoor counselling in South and East Bristol. The walking or outdoor location can be agreed between us, depending on your preferences and the settings I am familiar with. You don’t need to be an avid walker to benefit from outdoor counselling. I have experience facilitating outdoor therapy for people of all ages and levels of mobility. Please enquire to find out more.

‘Walk and talk therapy can be an especially helpful method of working for people who don’t have the opportunity to get out into nature very often and for those who feel as if they thrive better when they do. I have learnt that having therapeutic conversations with clients in the great outdoors, either while walking, sitting in a wooded clearing, or a mixture of both, adds a totally different and positive dynamic to the experience.’ (https://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/walk-and-talk-therapy.html#whatcanclientsexpectfromthesessions)

I can literally walk alongside you as you explore your inner world, in the outside natural environment. I am trained and experienced in ‘framing’ the outdoor sessions so that they can feel consistent and containing, although inevitably in a different way from an indoor session. For example, we would choose a start and end point together – like walking between two old trees; to symbolise entering and leaving the therapy space. The suggested route may also roughly take the shape of a figure of eight, incorporating different types of terrain; such as patches of woodland and open spaces. Each of these can bring various qualities and experiences to the sessions, as can the ever changing seasons of course. More detailed information about what to expect would be provided before commencing outdoor sessions.

My rural childhood and connection with nature influences how I work and what I personally find to be therapeutic. As an adult, I have developed a passion for exploring the wild and green spaces in and around a city. Spending time in these places creates more space within myself. Pausing to take notice of what is happening within and around you in the present moment – it is often surprising what you can find.
